Common Midea Aircon Repair Issues
Midea compressor Thermistor
One of the most common error codes in Midea inverter Aircon is “E5”. This E5 error could be attributed to the outdoor thermistor. The cause could be a rusty thermistor or certain electrical component in the wiring of the thermistor is faulty. However, the Aircon technician would need to determine which particular thermistor is faulty before they could replace it for you.
Fan coil Fan motor
This is not as common as the Midea compressor thermistor problem. Sometimes, during Midea Aircon servicing, we discover that the bearing of the Fan motor gets worn out. This is because there will be a metal-like sound. The cause of this is likely due to a faulty fan motor and the cost of repair should be lower than $180. However in Singapore, where the usage of Midea Aircon is not as high, there may be a low supply of the necessary spare parts. Therefore, it helps that Silverback Aircon is in direct contact with Midea as the parts are more accessible to us.
As mentioned earlier, the most common error code for Midea Air-conditioner is the E5 error code, which is commonly attributed to the outdoor thermistor. However, the problem may persist even if the thermistor is fixed. In such cases, it could be due to the fault of a PCB (printed circuit board). If such, unfortunately, you will require the assistance of professional aircon technicians to fix the error. This is because the Midea compressor PCB has 2 different types. An aircon technician has to open up the condensing unit cover panel and then identify the type of PCB it is before they can replace it. Therefore, it would be quite difficult to solve this yourself.
Midea Error Codes
There’s a whole list of Error Codes generated from different model of air-conditioner unit. This table below shows the possible types of error codes for an indoor unit:
|Display of Error Code
|| Error Description
||Indoor Unit EEPROM parameter error
||Indoor/Outdoor units communication error
||The indoor fan speed is operating outside of the normal range
||Indoor room temperature sensor T1 is in open circuit or has short circuited
||Evaporator Coil middle temperature sensor T2 is in open circuit or has short circuited
||Current overload protection
||Outdoor room temperature sensor T4 is in open circuit or has short circuited
||Condenser Coil temperature sensor T3 is in open circuit or has short circuited
||Compressor discharge temperature sensor TP is in open circuit or has short circuited
||Outdoor unit EEPROM parameter error
||The outdoor fan speed is operating outside of the normal range (for some models)
||Evaporator coil outlet temperature sensor T2B is in open circuit or has short circuited
||IPM malfunction or IGBT over-strong current protection
||Over-voltage or over low voltage protection
||Inverter compressor drive error
Single Split Midea Aircon
Midea Aircon is famous for its single split model in China. However, we do not recommend purchasing its Single split model in Singapore. No, it’s not that we doubt the quality of the Midea Air-conditioner. Unfortunately the fact is just that Midea Single split aircon does not have widespread usage in Singapore. Hence if there is any problem, you may have a lot of difficulty in finding Midea Aircon spare parts. Again, Midea aircon servicing is our expertise and we strongly encourage you to contact us for assistance!
Multi Split Midea Aircon
Midea Aircon is the cheapest and most economical Air-conditioning brand in Singapore. The price of Midea Aircon is about $600 cheaper than that of Mitsubishi electric starmex although it doesn’t lose in quality! Furthermore, Midea Aircon has a warranty that is longer than other brands. For example, the Midea Oasis series have a warranty of 6 years for compressor and 2 years on parts. What’s better is that Midea OS Series Premium 5 ticks have a 6 years warranty on parts and compressor. This is unheard of in the Air-conditioning industry and reflects strongly on the confidence they have in their Air-conditioning parts.
Midea Aircon Chemical wash
As mentioned in another article. We do not recommend Aircon chemical wash for all Aircon units. Instead, we recommend either Normal servicing or Chemical overhaul for Midea Aircon only. That is because chemical wash will not be able to thoroughly clean the back end of the coil. In fact, it may damage the electrical components on the fan coil unit as well. Chemical wash involves usage of a chemical solutions to wash the Aircon evaporator coil without dismantling the unit by itself. Over time, this process causes the coil to be corroded. Furthermore, it will be impossible to thoroughly clean off the chemical residue left on the evaporator coil.

Is midea aircon good?
Midea is a well-known name in the aircon industry, produces a wide range of air conditioner units. They offer a large variety of residential air con units such as split, window, portable and de-humidifier air conditioners.
What are the pros of midea aircon?
It has reliable air con performance and the brand has consistently developed and produced quality products focused on durability, performance, energy efficiency and eco-friendliness. Their units are also cheaper and more affordable as compared to several other brands.
What are the cons of midea aircon?
However, midea air conditioners might be incompatible with some licensed aircon service and repair centers.
How do you clean a midea aircon?
1. Turn off the air conditioner
Before opening the air conditioner, it is important to make sure it is turned off. Check the instructions to see how exactly you can remove your specific filters and open the front panel of the air conditioner.
2. Check the status of the filters
Use protective gloves when cleaning the filters. When you remove the filters, check their condition. If you notice that the netting has holes, it means that you have to replace them with new ones.
3. Clean the surface with a vacuum cleaner
One of the most important things about maintaining the good condition of the filters is regular vacuuming and dust cleaning. Use a vacuum cleaner without a brush, because it can damage the netting. Clean the filter well from top to bottom in its length. If you have pets, you may need to do this several times to make sure you have cleaned the net of all the hair. When using the vacuum cleaner, do not press too hard, as you can tear the filter.
4. Soak the filter in water
Once you have finished vacuuming and made sure that the netting is well cleaned of dust, you can proceed with washing the filter. To do this, fill the tub with water or a container large enough, and the water must be at room temperature. Pour a simple liquid detergent in the water and place the filter in the bath or container, making sure you have fully submerged it. Move the filter several times back and forth in the soap solution and allow it to soak for 10-15 minutes.
To remove dirt, do not use brushes or other rough tools to avoid damaging the filter. We recommend that you use a hose, as it will allow you to clean all waste and dirt well. Continue to clean the filter with a hose until the water flows clean on the other side.
5. Spray the filter with a homemade solution
To destroy bacteria, you can prepare a mixture that is effective enough at home. Make a solution by adding vinegar and water in a spray bottle in a one-to-one ratio. Spray the filter with the solution and allow it to disinfect well for about ten minutes. Then rinse the filter under running water.
6. Dry the filter well
It is important to dry the air filter outside to make sure that any moisture has been removed. You can put newspapers on the ground under the filter and lean it against the wall. After about three hours, the filter should be completely dry and then you can install it again in your air conditioner.
What is midea self cleaning mode?
Depending on the series of the air conditioner, the self cleaning mode can be activated automatically when the air conditioner is turned off. The fan will continue to work for another 10 – 20 minutes, ventilating and drying the heat exchanger. It can also be activated forcibly from the remote control.
What is the best way to maintain midea aircon?
Regularly maintained and well-cleaned air conditioning is an effective air conditioner, but more often than not, you might not have the time or energy to engage in such a tedious procedure. If you do not wish to spend hours reading and testing various tips, you can trust the professional services to help you settle this chore. Here at Silverback Aircon, we have a team of professional air conditioning technicians who can quickly and efficiently perform the prevention of your air conditioning system.
How often should I service my midea aircon?
It is known that Singapore is a rainy country, with perpertual humidity. Humidity combined with heat makes the aircon work harder than usual. In such conditions, it is recommended by professionals that your aircon is serviced every 3 to 4 months.
Is air conditioner servicing even important?
You may think that aircon servicing is expensive, and unnecessary since your air conditioners are still functioning normally. However, every unit works for hours at a time, and you are more likely than not unaware of how much dust actually accumulates on your air con components. Dust accumulation occurs on critical areas of filters, condenser coil, and evaporator coil. Avoiding air conditioning service means losing cooling capacity, cooling speed, and increased power consumption. As the saying goes, a stitch in time saves nine, if you do regularly service your air conditioners, you may save yourself much more hassle in the long term.
