Electricity consumption cost of your Daikin aircon

Depending on the model and BTU capacity of your Daikin air conditioner, you can more accurately calculate the corresponding cost of your aircon’s electricity consumption by referring to the adjusted rates from the Energy Market Authority (EMA) of Singapore. According to the EMA, “from October to December 2024, the tariff rate is 29.10 cents/kWh (without GST), or 31.72 cents/kWh (with GST).” 1 kW is equivalent to 3412.142 BTU/hr. To convert BTU to kWh, just multiply by 0.000293. Then multiply the resulting figure with the current cost of electricity per kWh.

Minimizing your Daikin aircon power consumption

Troubleshooting your existing Daikin aircon’s common error codes–including error codes C4, E2, E7, E4, E5, J5, J7, U4, and U9–can prove instructive in helping you develop habits that enable optimal operating conditions for your air conditioning unit. Maintain your Daikin aircon’s optimal cooling performance with these proven methods to reduce energy consumption.

Environment settings

  • Provide good insulation in the room where the air conditioner is installed. Apply an appropriate sealant over the wall gaps and foam insulation on window gaps. Preventing cool indoor air from mixing with hotter outdoor air helps the operation of your air conditioner. A well-insulated room prevents the AC from overworking and using excess electricity to cool the space.
  • Block sunlight from entering the room by applying solar window films and hanging heavy drapes or black-out curtains. Sunlight can easily heat up a room, which is something you want to avoid if you want to save electricity while running your air conditioner.
  • Make an effort to keep your windows and doors closed when running the air conditioner. Letting the warmer air outside continuously mix with the cool indoor air is just going to overwork your air conditioner, forcing it to operate harder to get to the temperature you’ve set for the room but never reaching it.

Daikin Aircon Settings

  • Use fans, especially ceiling fans, to distribute air conditioned air across the room. Fans can efficiently circulate air conditioned air for significantly less energy. With fans assisting your Daikin air conditioner, you can set the appliance to run at a higher temperature and still feel comfortable.
  • Take advantage of the energy-saving features that are fully integrated with your Daikin air conditioner. You may set them up through the AC remote control. The Daikin Eco+ mode optimizes energy efficiency, reducing power consumption without compromising comfort. Daikin offers additional energy-saving features, such as Sleep Mode, which you can pre-program for bedtime, and advanced inverter technology.
  • Settle with either 25 or 26 degrees Celsius as your thermostat setting. In this temperature range, there is no noticeable difference when it comes to the comfort level. Try to also avoid making frequent and significant changes to the thermostat settings. Lowering the temperature won’t make that much of a difference in making the air conditioner cool the room faster. It will just make it harder and longer for the Daikin aircon to reach and maintain your frequently adjusted lower temperature setting. This means more energy is consumed by the appliance.
